Join us for a beautiful horseback ride through the jungle-lined trails of Costa Rica. Jinetes de Osa currently maintains 14 of Costa Rica’s sturdiest breed of horses that will take you to locations so remote in the surrounding forest that only a few adventurous outsiders have explored. We offer full day rides on a variety of trails specifically chosen to thrill the green novice or the most ardent of cowboys. Full day rides are approximately five hours long and can be scheduled to leave throughout the day to accommodate your pace. Trips leaving in the morning will pack delicious lunches to be eaten on the trail or when you arrive at your scenic destination. There are three different trails to choose from, ranging from an easy glide to a difficult exploration. Those trails include:
Rancho Quemado- Easy |
You will ride along palm lined beaches overlooking the Pacific Ocean for the first part of the ride. Then take a trail off the beach and onto a rudimentary road. Follow the road as it winds through the forest to the pueblo (small village) of Rancho Quemado. Here you can witness the rural life of the Costa Ricans and the giant pre-Columbian stone spheres left by an ancient culture that inhabited the area. |
Pedro Falls-Moderate |
You will begin on the beach but quickly enter the rainforest, riding along a path cut into the lush tropical vegetation. You will forge a couple of small rivers before you reach a cascading waterfall. Bring along your bathing suit because there is a refreshing pool at the waterfall’s base perfect for a mid-afternoon dip.
|
Wilber Falls-Difficult |
You will ride to the most beautiful and remote waterfall on the Osa Peninsula. Most of the ride will be through breathtaking primary forest alongside and in the Aguajitas River. Bring your binoculars to view the amazing variety of birds and mammals that live along the river’s banks. At a certain point you will leave the horses behind and hike in the river to the falls. The ride and hike can be difficult at times and we only encourage the most fit and adventurous souls to attempt this trail. However, the seclusion and beauty of the waterfall make it worth the effort.
